As we head into a holiday weekend, most people have planned out (or at least thought about) what they will be doing. Planning ahead for a three-day weekend is important because you don’t want to squander the rare opportunity to decompress from the office.

Otherwise, you may just end up sleeping the weekend away and wasting a perfect opportunity, which you might want to do.

Here are some great suggestions for what to do on this upcoming holiday weekend.

HIKING

Since you’re used to waking up early, try to catch the sunrise over the southeastern most point of Oahu.  The Makapu’u Lighthouse trail is a short ascent, just under a mile. The view at the top is breathtaking, of the scenic shoreline of Makapu’u beach stretching toward the North Shore, waves breaking dramatically against the base of the cliff far below.

SAILING

As evening rolls in, a great way to unwind is to hop on one of the many sunset catamaran cruises that navigate the waters off Waikiki beach. Many catamarans leave right from the beach and include free drinks. Sunset sails are just a couple hours in length and occur during the most beautiful two hours of the day. This is a time of the day to unwind and relax with a cocktail in hand and share the day’s adventures.

FEED YOUR PASSION

This is a great time to unwind with your favorite pastime or hobby. Whether it’s hero-on-golf-coursegolfing,socializing, reading, painting, or horseback riding, do the things that make you happy; the things you don’t always have time for during the week or over a regular two-day weekend.

DO NOTHING

You don’t have to do anything during your time off. If you want to lay around for a few days, it’s probably healthy if you’re usually working around-the-clock. Don’t feel guilty about it either, because taking a break from the grind is good for your productivity.
